- Mansaku Japanese Food -

Okay, I shall refrain myself from writing movie reviews for these few days even though I've watched so many movies during the week. Have to put them as backlogs so that I can make a good balance between movie reviews and food reviews. So here goes another food review!

HO JIA EHTM

505 Beach Road
#01-93
Singapore 199583
Located in the Golden Mile Food Center where its upper floor is always oftenly frequented by army boys because of its wide range of stalls selling army products (I used to go there when I was in army too!). Anyway, the stall was recently reviewed by the channel 8 food review show called 排排站,查查看. My mum watched it, that was why I was dragged to that far away hawker centre early in the morning on my free Friday. Anyway, we ordered a Unagi, Teriyaki Chicken and Pork Cutlet sets. Totally forgotten to take photos of them, so, please bear with it as you imagine with my limited vocabulary and descriptions. Let's start with the Teriyaki Chicken, it seemed to be the most popular dish as the set came with a really nice Chawamushi. The Chawamushi was silky, no bubbles and loaded with minced pork meat at the bottom. Teriyaki chicken was fried, hence wasn't very authentic according to my brother. (Teriyaki Chicken supposed to be grilled). But nevertheless, it was crispy and cooked to the right degree. The unagi was sticky, just using the chopsticks wasn't enough to cut the meat apart, taste not much different from any other Japanese stall you could find selling unagi. Lastly, the Pork cutlet, the one I ordered was alright. The set was supplied with a black-brown sauce which I don't know what it was. The sauce tasted kind of sweet and salty with a strange bit of bitterness. (Japanese BBQ sauce?). Rice was hardy and moist to my liking. I like hard rice! Haha. Actually, the best thing of all is that they cook everything upon order and on the spot. Hence explaining for the long wait and long queue. What I can say is, I don't think it's a worth wait during the office lunch hours but worth a try any other time where there's not many people. By the way, there's this interesting stall beside it that sells Belgium Chocolate and the likes. (Fondue, chocolate chocolate chocolate, etc!), might find some time to go there and try!
