Crazy Ang Mo
Blk 279 Bishan street 24
#01-62/64
Opening Hours:
11am to 10pm on Mondays to Thurdays, 11am to 11pm on Fridays, 8am to midnight on Saturdays and 8am to 9pm on Sundays.
Located in an ordinary coffee shop in Bishan street 24, the place is quite easy to find just that it's not very car friendly. It's so difficult to find a parking lot and when you eventually find the multi storey car park, you have to drive all the way to the 4-5 levels before you find an hourly parking lot. Anyway, Crazy Ang Mo is the biggest stall in the coffee shop, one reason you can't missed it once you reach. It's decorated all yellow with plenty of group photographs (all of whom I don't even know) and plenty of kangeroos. For a moment, I thought maybe the stall would sell kangeroo meat dishes, but my high hopes meant with disappointment. Anyway, the stall is quite similar to Botak Jones, they have a number tag system plus a PA system if you didn't come for your food. Only difference is the quality of the food and it doesn't have a estimated time you have to wait. So here's the two dishes that was ordered...
Fish and Chips
Ordered by NLL Glutton companion. The fish was big, too much flour for the liking and portions were pretty okay. Was really looking forward to an Australian serving, or something comparable to Botak Jones. But the serving was kinda disappointing, the fries was too little, the salad was... unique but still too little. The fried fish came with some elevated dots which didn't look nice. Most probably due to the cook's negligience. Promoted as the Best selling item, it wasn't really what I expected from those words.
Price: S$6.50
Aussie Steak
Before you make any comments, no, I didn't take this picture after I started eating. This IS the serving that I got. It's totally different from the picture on the stall itself. The Aussie steak was displayed as a thick piece of juicy meat with the bold red words below that says "Air flown quality" (or something like that, can't remember), it's just too misleading. Maybe the juice evaporated away while it was on the way to Singapore? Anyway, the person at the counter didn't even ask how I want the steak done. I mean, isn't it standard to ask such questions? Well, for the fact that the stall is in a coffee shop, I can excuse this I suppose. Yup, I did ask the person at the counter whether I have the option of how well my steak can be done. It was medium rare, or rather, it was supposed to be. The steak wasn't really thick enough to be evenly medium rare. Placing that small lump of butter on top of the steak was quite a mistake. I spread the entire lump over the steak, and the steak became too salty. It was as juicy as expected from the display. Maybe steak was the wrong choice to order from the stall?
Price: $13.90
However, judging from the price, it can be forgiven that Crazy Ang Mo really can't match the liking of the franchise Botak Jones. Or maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I might give it another try, might just try the Crazy burger that they recommend next time. Hopefully I can come up with a better review than this to save Crazy Ang Mo. But as of now, go for Botak Jones and only try Crazy Ang Mo if you're hard for cash.

HO JIA EHTM
The restaurant, located at the famous street in Little India, lined with many other Authentic Indian food, Anjappar restaurant appeal to me the most because..... Moses Lim was in front of the entrance. Well, at least his poster was in front, it totally help with my decision making along the street. (cos I don't know which restaurant to go to!). Anyway, the restaurant ambience was quite good, smart looking waiters and restaurant captains and a glass wall between the tables and the kitchen to allow the customers to take a peek at how the chefs make their food. Poor thing, they can't even eat snake with the constant staring from the patrons' eyes. Their bill only include the 7% GST. No service charge included. Anyway, here are the delicious dishes that I ordered that day....

Mushroom Stewed Curry
First of all, the curry isn't spicy. Well, it's Japanese curry after all, when was Japanese curry ever spicy in the first place? But nevertheless, we were still given the choice of mild or "spicy" curry. I think because one of my friend hinted that he wanted super spicy, hence the curry that we had that day was slight spicer than the normal spicy as observed by nixxy. What I think is that, this dish is quite over rated. I mean, 17.90 bucks for a plate of mushroom curry with rice? I go to the supermarket lo, the ingredients they had were golden mushrooms which cost around 1 bucks++, and normal mushrooms that would cost about 3 bucks++. But I still quite impress at how their curry could cover over the mushroom "fungi" taste which I can't do it myself when I cook. The rice was good quality like real Japanese rice (or maybe they are), and goes really well with the curry as they don't go soggy and become a clump when I mix them with the curry.
Price: $17.90+++

KFC
No need to give the addresses right? (anyway, I ate it in Bishan J8)
Anyway, the latest product from KFC, it's simply the spicy flavour minus the spicy flavour and + the smell of miso. Miso, a type of..... er.... fermented stuff that Japanese like to make for their well known miso soup. Anyone can fill in for me here? Something like.... History of miso or something like that would be fine. Anyway, This new KFC fried chicken is quite perfect for people who can't take spicy taste, but want to try the crispiness of the spicy KFC fried chicken. Though rated by a friend of mine as very very very very salty, I find it fine, not too salty I guess. The smell coming from the miso crunch fried chicken was really luring if you ever walk pass the fastfood restaurant. However, the fried chicken only have the smell but did not have the miso taste that I expected and the seaweed, I believe is only for aesthetics purposes and to differentiate between original and spicy didn't add to the taste. Other than this (and the KFC auntie with the really fierce face), the green tea that went with the chicken was quite tasteless, or should I say, good for the health minded people. (well, if you go KFC and eat, you're not realli healthy minded in the first place). So, definitely worth a try.

Ordered this meal set so that I could try every single side dish that they could offer. The set meal included a chicken wing, two fish, one egg, one otah and ikan bilis. Well, everything is normal for me that is, except for the rice and the chilli which were brilliant. Great food and worth the wait even though I would have been more pleased if I could wait a little shorter. :)

Giant Beef Hot Dog
Hmmm, my picture sure looks kinda of obsene. LOL. Anyway, the hot dog is HUGE. Fries were in crazy amounts with chilli powder. Salad serving was really big too. The hot dog came with the bun, which I couldn't really pack it up with the hot dog, cause the hot dog is simply too huge. The hot dog was nice, bouncy and Q on the skin. Definately worth the money.
S$5.50: Without the bun
S$6.50: With the bun only
S$7.50: Set meal

Cajun Chicken Plate
Nice and tender breast chicken meat. The cajun sauce..... kinda of spicy, cause I think chilli's kinda free to them. So, non-chilli eaters, please watch out! Said to be the 2nd most popular item, it really matches up to its popularity. Kinda "healthy" too, since it's breast meat. :D
S$7.50: Regular
S$12.50: Large
All in all, it's a worthwhile trip and worth a second, third, and so on. Price is cheap, service is good. Only thing is the place is kinda hot and there's no ambience. LOL. But you can be sure that you'll be full after that meal.

Proudly present to all of you lovely glutton companion, Xiao Bao. :D See, even her blouse blends with the color combination of the cafe.
Anyways, been a real long time since I blogged about food. Well, here's another one I guess. Hope you guys like it. Here goes....
First dish: Shitake Mushroom crumble
Second dish: Pasta Linguine Carbonara (aiya, spotted with my new hair style :D)Third dish: Grilled Rib-eye Steak
Sorry guys, forgotten to take picture of that. On the whole, it wasn't too bad, steak with clumps of fats at some parts. (which is good, adds to the taste) It's "supplemented" with a very spicy black pepper sauce that I think Mr anonymous would like. It could be served with mashed potato or baked potato, I chose the former, and the portion was quite big.
Price: $16.90
Fourth dish: Strawberry-kiwi shake
Recommended by the waiter himself. Really sweet stuff and a truly great combination between strawberry and kiwi.
Price: $4.90
Some side notes:
All the main course provides you with a soup of the day + dessert at the end of your meal (something that they serve at the correct time). So if you're a light eater, please do not..... do not... order finger food if u intend to order a main course. Service was 2.5/5. They forgotten to give Xiao Bao a fork, I asked for it twice from two different waiters and no action taken by them. Xiao Bao asked once and got it almost immediately. =.=" Ambience = 2.5/5 too. Well, it's a cafe you see, don't expect too much on this part.
Hmmz, after this episode, I think the next HJE, I'll be introducing hawker food. :) Xiao Bao doesn't like the glutton to spend too much. :D

Yup, ramen in Orchard Plaza revisited. Tried the cold noodles. Nice. Noodles, chewy and bouncy, got 口感. Wasabi that went with the noodles, not spicy. Next time should add chilli oil and chilli powder. :)
Yup, flip side of the menu is in japanese. Definately a must try though the noodles are as yellow as the common sheng 面 we have here. Those we eat with prawn noodles most of the time.
A small shop on the first floor of plaza singapura right at the corner next to caffefour. Hard to spot but got quite a number of patronizers. Ambience was quite good, nice decoration and cosy feeling. Wooden tables and chairs. Best of all, the outdoor sitting is a non-smoking area. Nice menu that is presented in a photo album form. The down part is that the "photo album" did not include the drink options.
Had to go to the ordering counter to check that out.
Ordered iced milk tea (normal) and honey french toast (would be nicer if they gave me more butter). Price for all this = $3.20. Sell plenty of other bread stuff and I notice that quite a number of the customers were ordering the mee siam, maybe should give it a try next time. Other than that, I can't find it's difference with Ya Kun except that it serves milo dinosaur.

Had been working the week before. 7 days straight, more than 12 hours everyday. Hectic, chaotic, tiring are the only words to describe. Struggling with work and try to cope with my non-recovering cough just made it even worse. Thanks to some friends for being caring and thanks to ZK for bringing that liang teh + powdered medicine all the way from chinatown. Really appreciated that.
For those who do not know, I've been working in the area in front of caffefour for the past week. Toy Room, the shop that I used to work for on the third floor in the same tower offered me this job and I somewhat gladly took it due to the lack of $$$. Need money buy phone! Need money buy textbooks! Here happen to be some candid photos that Nix took when he visited me on one of those days. The first one really look like "stalker" photo because it can't really pass to be a private investigator photo. LOL

New York New York
Address-> The best I can get the the net is, In Citylink, Next to HMV.
As the name of the restuarant explains itself, the concept of the restuarant is based on new york itself. Statue of liberty in the middle of the resturant, subway look-alike dining tables, new york city backdrop.
I find the food quite cheap relatively speaking in terms of restaurants, of course you shouldn't compare food court prices here right?
Since it was a relatively new resturant, only open a few weeks ago, the patrons were amazing, coming in herds and all. I had to wait like 30-40mins in the quene? But the service by the manager was great, cheerful and smiling, he invited us in to sit down on the sofas near the entrance as we waited for our seats. There's this menu just outside the restaurant, and the giant yankee burger just caught my eye and I knew what to ordered. Well, here comes the chain of food.. P.S: Please pardon me, I forgot all about the names, so the nearest thing I can remember is that all the dishes here have a "Gotta try It!" stamp beside their names in the menu.
1. Salad
I'm not really a salad guy. You know, meat meat meat and more meat, no veges please whatsoever. But the vegetables (whatever you call them) is just nice with the dressing, bread crumbs and roasted chicken meat. However, it's not a very good opener, as the dressing doesn't start your appetite going. But, rather good for a diet meal I guess? Diet and nice food = perfect combination.
2. Buffalo wings with cheese sauce
I was expecting chicken wings fried and dipped in red hot spicy sauce before they came, much alike the ones in Surfer's place in Funan centre. But it just came differently, you know, sauce separated from the wings, and the sauce was creamy white. A note though, please consume it while it's hot, cause it doesn't taste nice when it's cold wings with cold white cheese sauce. Well, yet another new type of fried chicken wings I've tried. Another note, they should marinate or put in some taste in the wing itself, cause it's kind of tasteless without the sauce.
3. Pepperoni Pizza
Juicy, cheesy and filled with loads of ingredients in every slice of that personal size pizza. Good old original cooking way from Italy. But I still think that the bread part of the pizza is way too hardy.
4. Pork Ribs
Fatty, juicy and totally sinful. They must have gotten these ribs from the fattest pig they can find. The ribs were so full of fats that the meat was so succulent from the oil. Well, it's something sinful that you want to try once in a while. A note: Fats bring out the taste of the meat. No fats = no succulent meat. Same concept goes for sirlon steaks.
5. Giant Yankee Burger
The main hero, the main dish, the main killer for the day and possibly the only name of the dish that I can remember or rather can't forget. The description gave in the menu gave something like this: The burger is gigantic~! Enough for four persons to eat! We dare you to eat it alone! And here's my description. The beef patty itself is almost a thumb finger nail thick and each of the sesame buns were just as thick too. The plate filled up more than half the space of the table. Apart from the size, the beef patty was alright only, because I think they cooked it for too long, such that the beef became rather dry, and you do know how dangerous dry food can do to the throat right? Especially BIG and dry food. So please, do not try this dish unless u're gastronomically prepared. Cause the people I went with were not. LOL.
Oh man, just talking about the last dish gave me the creeps. One thing to take note about the waitresses and waiters there, maybe they are just new, because for somethings they just didn't take initiative to do, like giving us the cheese, chilli flakes and tabasco sauce for our pizza, small plates for us since we obviously are going to share the dishes we ordered and warn us that the burger is REALLY REALLY BIG! Maybe a life-sized photo of the burger would do real good.
Overall speaking, the ambience was kind of good, manager was smiling and welcoming, concept is nice, sofa cosy and food cheap and up to standard. They even offer the customers cotton candy after our meals, pretty neat ah?
