Hi, long time since my last post I supposed. Since I have some time, which I don't think I should be having, I shall now give you my reviews on two movies I've watched these two days... :)

Kungfu Dunk
Caught this movie at 120am this morning. Was kinda exciting some story/character development through the movie. But what I got was expected story line, weak character build and repetition of the song which I felt was nice in the first place. Some jokes are even copied from movies and comic related to sports/basketball. Other than that, it's a worth movie if you really have nothing to do during the CNY break like me. LOL

CJ7

The most anticipating movie of the year for me. Had been waiting since the study break from last semester when I surf upon the trailor of this movie. First of all, the movie's directed and directed by my idol! Stephen Chow! Woohoo.... And this is also as he announced, the last time he's going to act in a movie. Hopefully he's kidding on this one. Anyway, this movie was entertaining (not trying to be bias here). Though it didn't had much character build up, Stephen managed to use the correct music for every part of the movie, which I find it really wonderful. On the whole, the movie is really funny at some parts but generally moderately funny (unlike his previous ones) and it did manage to bring upon tears (which he planned on doing). Last but not least, the alien spacedog is SUPER CUTE! I want the plush toy!!!!! I would say this is a must watch for this CNY break. Here are some interesting things that you guys might want to know.

1. The kid (Dicky) who acted as Stephen's son, is a girl.
2. The design of the dog is according to Stephen's dog who died.
3. CJ is a name, name after a space rocket project in China.
4. Stephen's last acting movie.
5. Stephen's next movie is Dragon Ball Z.

- Blades of Glory -
Have been watching quite a lot of movies recently, so many that I don't know which one to start reviewing on first. So I chose this, at last a comedy which is worth recommending. The main topic of the story is really simple, all about ice skating. Throughout the movie, it introduced ice skating as such an interesting and wonderful sport. Got so see many stun they do in ice skating competitions. The two actors, Will Ferrell and Jon Heder really skated well, or maybe the the ice skating doubles and stuntman were totally amazing. Anyway, there were plenty of jokes throughout the jokes. Most of which were lame but not exagerrating lame. Of course, there were also jokes outside the ice skating ring, such as the thing about sex addict. Secondly, there's a really funny finale with the Iron Lotus. You got to watch it to believe it. Lastly, if you're a ice skating fanatic, there are plenty of references to ice skating champions in the show. Nevertheless, you got to watch it to believe that it's a worthwhile show. :)

- Die hard and Die hard with a vengence -

Yup, after watching such a good sequel (die hard 4.0), I couldn't bear the urge but to went ahead to watch the original part 1 and part 3 filmed in 1988 and 1995 respectively. Well, presently I'm still holding on to part 2. I went ahead to watch part 3 after part 1 because I simply couldn't stand the retro feel of the film and how young Bruce Willis looked (he still had his six-pack). Hmmm, all I could say is that part 1 was entired filmed in a building, all the action and ya dah ya dah all in the building whilst in part 3, it involved some running about in the city and trying to solve some riddles in between. Of course, the plots weren't as nice as the latest sequel, but die hard 3 is still worth a watch because of the small twist in the midst of the show. The main villian in die hard 3 was the brother of the villian in die hard 1, bringing a small link into why these films are a sequel, other than that, it can actually be filmed as a totally different movie all by itself. There were of course action, explosions, most of which can't be compared to the present sequel. So, I think if you're looking for some retro action, you can pry into these two movies, if not, just wait for the local TV channel to broadcast them again. LOL.

- Die hard 4.0: Live Free or Die Hard -What must I say, this is a strong recommendation from me. This action movie was really unexpectedly entertaining for me, because I did expect sequels to be rather dull as they are just trying to continue the story from the previous movies. Non-stop action, storyline and flow of the movie were awesome. The main idea of the movie was about the possiblity of a "fire sale", if you don't know this phrase, maybe you can try wikipedia or watch the movie itself, because I don't really want to spoilt such a good movie. Expect many fighting and action and even a F22 Raptor in the midst of the movie. Truely action packed and coincidentally, one of the main actor, Justin Long was in the movie, Accepted. Also expect the movie to be slightly irrational in a way, like how at the end of the movie you'll compare Bruce Willis with Jackie Chan. And how some conversations goes like this.......
"So you have any plans?"
"Yeah. Find Lucy. Kill everybody else."
(as mr anonymous had pointed out)

- Accepted -

Yup, I finally got a recommendation from my friend, Prime on a recent comedy. I was wondering why this movie didn't came on to screens in Singapore. Wonder wonder why. Hmmm. Anyway, this movie was quite light-hearted with a really radical idea (something that challenges the present and traditional education system) behind it. It's simply about a guy who couldn't get into college after he graduated from high school. He applied for so many colleges until he gave up and created a college himself, which included a fake website, location for the school and even a dean just to fool his parents. But what happened in the process was that all this fake stuff was so real that it attracted college rejects and the website actually accepted their applications. So, in the midst there's some pretty funny and radical ideas along the way before the guy who started everything ended up in trouble with the authorities. Quite a fun (not the usual exaggerating funny)movie, and a sort of getta away from the study blues.

- Hot Fuzz -

A movie recommended by mr anonymous. It's a movie by the British people, so expect Britain English if you're watching it. Was a comedy + action movie through most parts, quite not to my liking, maybe my taste is totally different from mr anonymous. Throughout the whole movie, there's only a few things that were worth laughing about. Story line was over exaggerated towards the murderous bloody kind. Yup, expect alot of blood and gore because the writers of the movie previously wrote the bloody movie called Shaun of the dead. Well, all I can say that the reason for the murders that happened in the village was "all for the greater good". LOL. It's actually highly recommended for those who can understand fast speaking British English (and understand them) and those who particularly like British comedy. I myself don't really like British comedies, well, except for Mr. Bean that is. Haha. Oh ya, one more thing, the old folks in the village can't aim for nuts.

- Donnie Darko -

Hmmm, yet another time travel movie which I came across as I was reading more on the "Next" Movie which I reviewed previously. Somehow that website said that if you like movies like "Next", this is another movie that you will enjoy. Apparently, this was not quite true. Donnie Darko is quite a dark movie with a very strange story outline ( I felt so). What I feel is that the story abit of here and there. Not much development with alot of "fill in"s which you have to truely think deep and think it yourself or you could simply go wikipedia to read up after you watch the movie. This movie wasn't much of blockbuster hit, since they only used 28 days to film the whole movie and the only thing worth watching about it was the main actor was the guy who acted in Brokeback Mountain. Other than that, please don't waste your time on this movie even though the DVD cover as I've showed says "it'll knock you flat", it just might have another different meaning by itself. LOL.

-Transformers

Hmmm, have been writing so many movie reviews that it seems like it's more of a movie review blog than my original glutton theme. LOL. Nobody has been jioing me out for "food fest"! :'( Anyway, back to this movie review. Well, I believe all of you out there do know what transformers are right? At least my generation would know and can easily hum that transformers cartoon song "more than meets the eye" without much prompting. Anyway, the basic outline of the story is the bad guys went to Earth looking for an energy source cube so as to rule the world FOREVER while the good guys are of course obviously trying to stop them. Movie is full of special effects and CG but the thing is that everytime they transform, the movie didn't show a good overview of the transformation but rather a close shot view which I feel happened almost everytime the robots transform. Story line lacks development because they fail to explain alot of things along the way though it was a 2hours plus show. Megatron was huge and changes into a F-22 plane unlike the cartoon where he originally changes into a gun. But like my friend say, if he really changes into a gun, there'll be no show to watch. In all, there were a couple of jokes along the way which were quite laughable, and an interesting vending machine robot which appear near the end shooting can drinks. LOL. So, I think, this movie is watchable if you're not looking for a good story line, the special effects should be enough to amaze you.

- Next -Another of those time science fiction films that I've watched yesterday. Different from the previous movies that I've reviewed is that in this film, the main actor has the ability to see a few minutes into the future. So, the movie began with the main actor (Nicholas Cage) working as a regular magician and playing and winning games at the casino of which all his actions were being tracked down by the FBI. When he got into trouble, the FBI looked him up and propose a "as you know it", we erase your records in our files and you help us thing. But he declined and used his special ability to escape from the FBI. Then again, in the midst, he eventually helped the FBI due to some girl but was killed by the nuclear bomb that detonated because he made a mistake (which was not explained).

*major spoiler AHEAD*

Well, usually in a normal movie, the main hero doesn't die right? Hence the story that had been going on 3/4 of the time was all a dream, because apparently he could see in the future more than 2 mins or perhaps hours once he met the girl. Interesting ending but it was too open ended I guess. And I believe there are some parts some people would not catch it when he "spilt" himself into many "clones" when in search for the people involved in the nuclear bomb.

- SWAT -

Watched this old show last night. SWAT: Special Weapons and Tactics. Quite a cool action movie which features SWAT training, test and the "real" situation encounters. Anyway, back to the story, it was about two partners in a SWAT team whereby one of them disobeyed direct orders from the superior and engaged an enemy in a bank-hostage scenerio. Due to his actions, he was demoted and kicked out of the force while his partner (hero of the movie) gets punishment in the "gun cage". After a while since the incident, the hero got another chance to get into SWAT and that was when at the same time a super criminal was caught and offered 100 million dollars (on tv) for whoever who was able to get him out of jail. Hmmm, at this point, I don't have to say much right? Maybe just a hint, the person who got kicked out of SWAT reappeared in the second part of the movie and of course the ending was a happy one. The movie was packed with a fair amount of action but lack a really high climax.

- 28 days later -Yup, another horror movie about zombies. I was imaginating it to be somewhat on par with the show like resident evil. Resident evil was quite good I must say, with abit of high technology involved and computer graphics. But 28 days later has none of these. They just made use of alot alot alot alot of blood and many many red color contact lenses and monkeys. So, if you're expecting something like resident evil like me, you'll walk off totally disappointed. The ending was quite unexpected. The script writer was probably trying to think of something that might possibly happen to people when they're trapped at one place, nowhere to go and trying to survive in a man kill man situation. Other than that, the show started monotonously without much climax inbetween, with many unexplained parts like what exactly was the "rage" injected into the monkeys? And I thought it was a blockbuster to begin with. Sighz.

- Norbit -I have a liking for comedies. But after watching so many comedies like these, I'm starting to lose faith in the industry and their credibility to make another nice comedy movie. This show was totally not to my liking at all. Story line was too fantasy like and something I can't relate with at all. The woman was extremely fat and obese. I think this show is just trying to make fun out of obese people which was quite disgusting in a way. Anyway, didn't really like it throughout the entire show. Eddie Murphy acted three different roles which were all horrendous roles. Well, until I hear a good review on another comedy, I shall restrain myself from anymore of comedies at the meantime.

- Rocky Balboa -
Another name for this movie would have been Rocky VI. Yup, this is exactly the SIXTH rocky movie that Sylvester Stallone had acted in. The pace of the movie was kinda slow pace as describe by mr anonymous before I even watched the show. It was Rocky's after life after his two time world heavy weight champion boxing career. His wife passed away, and he lost his aims in life and was trying to find his son to talk to. But his son didn't like getting associated with his father as he was always referred as "Rocky's Son" and not as himself. The show got more interesting when Rocky applied for a boxing licence and was immediately invited on an exhibition match with the recent boxing champion who has never lost in a match before. That was when he started training and all the typical stuff from his previous movies came in. Meaning the "eye of the tiger" song, lifting weights, jogging like mad and eating huge amounts of raw eggs. The climax came when the boxing match started with plenty of punches here and there between the 50+ yr old Rocky and the 20+ yr old boxing champion. Well, what can I say, if you're a Rocky fan, it's a definate must watch. Another would be if you're looking for some inspiration, here's where to look. One nice motivating line from the movie would be " It's not about how you can hit, it's about how you can get hit and keep moving forward, it's about how much you can take and keep moving forward."

- 1 litre no Namida -The drama series also known as 1 litre of tears, is extremely tears jerking. Almost every episode from the start, you'll start crying non-stop if you're an emotional person. Recommended by my friend who actually watch it more than 2 times. At first, he gave me a strong warning that the show will bring tears non-stop, not believing him I took on the challenge. Fortunately, I didn't bet with him, if not, I would have definately lose hands down even he was given a choice to use which episode on me.

Anyway, the drama is based on a true story about a young girl who got this rare neurological disease called SCD, short form for spinocerebullar degenerative disease. A disease that incurable and would gradually degenerated all the patient's peripheral nerves, meaning the motor nerves. Hence the disease disables the person from voluntary motor actions. The story starts chronologically, with how she discover she had the disease, followed by the happenings around her, including her family, school and her love life. Well, shouldn't say too much here, if not it'll be another spoiler.

This show is quite good for gamers, if you intend to have your eyes a good wash after a tiring computer game, this is definately a show you could watch. One episode is enough, because right now, after continously watching 5 episodes, I'm kind of suffering from dehydration (from water loss through the eyes) and a slight headache from the symptoms of the drama. LOL.

- Déjà vu -Déjà vu...... The feeling of having experienced something that was encountered for the first time.
Yup, yet another quite okay movie that I've watched. Some movie that's quite like the Butterfly Effect. Another interesting movie that I like too.

Well, basically, the movie plays around with the theory of physics and about the probability of going back into the past to change somethings. Of course, everytime when this topic comes about, there's always the paradox problem that the director or the script writer has to solve it in a way or two. That is, if something is really changed in the past by a future person, what will happen to the present? LOL. Sounds complicated right? Anyway, basically, there's like about two postulated resultant, that is what ever you do when you're back in the past, the future will stay the same, like what was portrayed in the Time Machine. The other would be that the future will be in another dimension due to the "new" past that was created and hence the present would then cease to exist. LOL. Okay, I shall stop with the physics theory thing here before the readers get anymore confused. Anyway, the movie used the latter postulated resultant. Well, at least in this way, you'll almost definately understand that the ending's going to be a good one (ya , ya, those happily ever after stories ).

Well, it's definately a good show to watch, and you might want to catch the Butterfly Effect too and see how the two different movies twist and turn around physics theories in different ways. Oh yah, seems like a coincidence, I surfed on the yahoo search engine and they featured a science discovery about Deja Vu. Interesting article. Link.

Yup, shall be going to the "look quite nice" fun fair tomorrow! Got some free tokens and some coupons for free goodie bag and ice cream! Hope it's gonna be fun. Shall post photos of the place if I take any tomorrow!

小宝,
sorry ah, haven't been able to speak to you on msn lately. Heez. Too addicted to online game le I guess. Just want to tell you that I just received your postcard with the red pouch thing that I don't know what it is. So sweet. Hope you'll have fun during the homestay this weekend! Miss you terribly. :P By the way, I just borrowed 6 Stephen Chow DVDs from my friend, should I watch first or wait for you to come back? Heh heh heh......

-Ghost Rider-

At last, this is a much more sane movie that's suitable for the normal audience. With somewhat a storyline that had a couple of irregularities and illogical meanings, it's kind of a typical hero and villian show that you would expect out of a comic hero. Anyway, Nicholas Cage face doesn't appear alot of times in the show, because most of the time, he's portrayed as a "skeleton warrior" in burning fire riding on a burning bike.

*warning: may contain spoilers!
As the story goes, he was selected by the devil himself to be his bounty hunter. Strange enough, the power the ghost rider got from the devil somehow contradicts the devil's doing himself. And also, the ghost rider power was so much more powerful than the devil's son. Hmmm, well, the main story line is that the devil's son was looking for some contract thing that contain many many many souls. So once he gets the contract he'll be ultra powerful. Well, I'll let you guess the ending here, quite an anti-climax I must say. Firstly, the devil's son doesn't have a soul, and once he got the contract, he possesses many many many souls. Secondly, the ghost rider power is that when anyone with a soul who looks into the eye of the ghost rider(which he didn't have any because he's a skeleton?) would be able to feel the pain on the people that the soul has sinned on and eventually die of the pain. So? Pretty easy to guess the not so spectacular ending right? :)

- Epic Movie -

Free from my FYP work, I decide to catch a funny movie.... At least, I was expecting it to be funny.......

This is the WORST show I've ever watched in my life! It's much much worse than Nanny Mcphee or The Fog. Arghz. No story line, no plot, lousy spoof, not even worth downloading. But if you're planning to get hold of something of each movie that has been showing in 2006, that's IF you're planning to do so, you might..... MIGHT want to watch this show to see what kind of movies you've been missing out during 2006. But, I must warn you that the spoof that they show has nothing, almost absolutely nothing to do with the actual show. The jokes ain't funny at all. Most of which involves some really stupid ridiculous sexual content. !##$%^$%&

P/S: The Borat guy is DISGUSTING.

- Night at the Museum -

Oh ya, before I forgot, watched this with 小宝 on Saturday.
Expected the movie to be very very very extremely funny. But it turned out to be kind of.... moderate only. Story line as you all know (due to the plentiful showing of the trailors), is about the turning alive of every single thing that could be found in the museum itself. And gradually the things that happened in the museum and stuff. Well, there are rather some funny parts and some unfunny parts, in all, it's more of a family movie with some sort of a moral of the story behind it.
Okay, the movie didn't give me a very vivid impression. So....... not much elaboration I guess. :P

- Love Letter -

Watched a "epic" love story movie with 小宝 yesterday. It's a 1995 Japanese movie called "love letter". Story started with a death anniversary of the husband of this woman. Apparently, the woman couldn't forget about her husband after two long years and kind of still living in the past. So on the death anniversary, she visited her mother-in-law's house and came upon a year book of her husband when he was in High School. She came upon his home address where he used to live in during his younger days. Knowing that the house which he lived in had a highway built over it resulting that address to be non-existent, she nevertheless wrote that address down and wrote a letter to that place. What was surprising here is....... after a while, there was a response.

The story didn't end just that, got a little twist and turns before the viewer finally realise what was really happening. Anyway, the movie is kind of slow pace and monotonous without much climax until the very very end when what was supposed to be reveal was revealed. LOL

To end, the story was so complicated at the start that there were many question marks on your head until the middle of the story. I think it's kind of a gimmick to make the viewers watch it all over again. I believe, the story is abit of 纯真, 简单 and 痴情.

- a movie with mum -

Caught an early 1145am show with mum today. It's called Sinking of Japan (日本沈没). The movie was rather good, get to see many sceneries of Japan, then many many many disasters happening. To me, it was something similar to movies like deep impact, armagedon, the core and volcano. Just that for this case, the movie is dialogued in Japanese and it includes many many disasters such as earthquake, tsunami, volcano eruption.... Well, the story line is quite typical I should say, in this kind of situational movies, there bound to be a hero, and then... somebody has to die. LOL. Overall speaking, it's a worthwhile show for a weekday, and the show is quite loaded with special effects and also some sort of a sightseeing tour for people who like Japan but haven't gone yet. 哈哈....
